Benin, West Africa
Population: 7,460,025
Christians: 30%
Dominant Religion: Tribal
Persecution Ranking: Not Ranked
Political Leader: President Yayi Boni
Religious Freedom in Constitution: Yes
The election of Christian President Mathieu Kerekou in 1996 and the establishment of a democratic government has been slowly undoing decades of economic stagnation and anti-Christian religious influence and oppression. The constitution provides for freedom of religion, and the government generally respects this right in practice.
Although there is no state religion, there is a high percentage of people who follow traditional religions similar to Voodoo. The well-educated and influential Fon people have led the country in ancestor worship and devotion to fetishes. It is not unusual for members of the same family to practice Christianity, Islam, traditional indigenous religions or a combination of these faiths.

Father in Heaven, look down upon the needy people of Benin and cause Your Kingdom to come to them in a far greater and more powerful way than it has up to now. Open the eyes of the blind and stir the hearts of Your people to reach out with the Good News. Send many laborers into the Harvest Field. Thank You LORD. Amen.
