Christians: 9%
Dominant Religion: Sunni Islam
Persecution Ranking: Not Ranked
Political Leader: President Yaha A. J. J. Jammeh

Although Sunni Muslims constitute 90 percent of the population of the Gambia, there is no requirement for religious groups to register. Biblical and Koranic studies are provided in both public and private schools throughout the country without government restriction or interference. There is no state religion and much tolerance between the various communities.
Intermarriage between Muslims and Christians is common. Syncretism is practised and although 90% of the population professes to be Muslim, the country is deeply steeped in animism and folk religion.
Islam has steadily grown in influence, but Christian missionaries operating in the country have considerable opportunity to share their faith. There are no reports of religious prisoners or detainees.
Prayer Points
|
Pray that nominal Christians would experience revival and a new zeal to reach out with the Gospel of Jesus Christ to their neighbors, especially among children and young people. |

|
Pray for discipleship, leadership, and evangelism training among the small but growing evangelical community, and pray for continuing religious freedom to preach the Gospel. |

|
Pray for Christian ministries including those involved in prison evangelism, the JESUS film, radio broadcasts, and Christian TV programs, that they would gain wide exposure and be fruitful. |
LORD Jesus, we thank You that in this predominantly Muslim country there is friendly protection and accommodation of the Christian minority. May peace continue to reign, that many might find Jesus as LORD and Savior. Amen. |
