North Korea, East Asia
Population: 22,912,177
Christians: 1-2%
Dominant Religion: Idolatry of Kim II Sung
Persecution Ranking: 1st
Political Leader: Kim Jong-il
Religious Freedom in Constitution: Yes
North Korea is currently the most serious violator of human rights in the world. Kim Jong-Il, continuing the policies of his father Kim Il-Sung, suppresses any form of dissent against the government. North Koreans are effectively forced to worship Kim Il-Sung as a god. Dissenters face imprisonment in one of many political prison camps where forced labor, inhumane living conditions, and torture are common. Christians have been particularly targeted by the authorities as subversive and face imprisonment and possible execution. From a time when North Korea’s capital, Pyongyang, was called the Jerusalem of the East, North Koreans have now come to live under state-enforced idolatry of the leaders in which violent punishments, including torture, execution, and brutal imprisonment, are forced upon Christians.
Prayer Points
|
Please pray that the enforced idolatry imposed throughout North Korea will be broken. |

|
Pray that there will be true religious freedom and that people will be able to worship the One and Only True God without restriction. |

|
Pray for God to uphold those who are imprisoned at this time and give peace and security to their families. |

|
Pray for secret Christian Believers in North Korea to grow in their faith and be shielded from those who would persecute them. |
Almighty Father, even in this most desperate situation, we ask and believe for Your Kingdom to come and Your will to be done. We pray that the international community would put pressure on North Korea’s leaders to respect human rights and religious freedom. We cry out on behalf of all those suffering in political prisons at this moment. Please sustain and comfort them. Give them the strength and perseverance to continue in their faith. We ask that they would be protected from persecution. In the name of Jesus Christ we pray, Amen.
