Oman, Arabian Peninsula

Population: 3,001,583

Dominant Religion: Ibadhi and Sunni Islam
Persecution Ranking: 45th
Political Leader: P.M. Qaboos bin Said Al Said
Religious Freedom in Constitution: Yes

Oman is unique in several ways. For many citizens, their mother tongue is Swahili, a legacy of ancient trading links with East Africa. The dominant religion is Ibadhi Islam, which is distinct from the more common Sunni and Shia Islam. There are recognized churches for expatriate Christians. The government tolerates informal worship in homes by unregistered groups and by followers of recognized religions in towns without official places of worship. It also monitors mosques and other religious bodies to ensure that only tolerant messages are given, and that Imams and other religious leaders do not promote intolerance or incitement to religious hatred. Nationals who choose to follow Jesus Christ face strong pressure from family and society, if their decision for Christ becomes known.

Prayer points:
Pray for the Sultan's effort to promote economic development.
Pray for greater acceptance of those who choose to follow Jesus Christ within society.
Pray that those excluded from families because of following Jesus will find nourishing relationships with like minded people.

Dear LORD God Almighty and most merciful, continue to keep Oman stable, and provide meaningful employment for all its citizens. Uphold Your Church to be Your presence and reflect Your love. May Your peace rest with all who put their trust in Jesus Christ, and may they remain close to You whatever the cost. Amen.

Prayer moves the hand of God.  Once there is sustained, strategic, and informed prayer in the 10/40 Window, we will witness massive numbers of unreached people coming to Christ.  Pray that it will happen in our generation.- Beverly Pegues
