Tunisia, North Africa
Population: 10,074,951
Christians: <1%
Dominant Religion: Sunni Islam
Persecution Ranking: 32nd
Political Leader: President Zine El Abidine ben Ali
Religious Freedom in Constitution: Yes
Tunisia is a generally tolerant and open society. In recent years it has developed an export-orientated economy and a strong tourist industry. However, religious and political freedom are restricted. The President and his ruling Constitutional Democratic Party allow for no political dissent. Expatriate Christians may worship freely, but overt evangelism is forbidden. Most national Christian Believers suffer harassment from their families. Some have been called to interview by the authorities, which is intimidating, but those who calmly stand firm for their faith are rarely beaten or imprisoned.
Prayer Points
|
Pray that Tunisian Christians called to interviews with the security police would calmly stand firm in their faith. |

|
Pray that Tunisian society will accept more openly the existence of Tunisian Christians, thereby reducing the pressure on new Believers from their extended families. |

|
Pray for provision of suitable education opportunities for the children of national Believers since the state system provides religious education only in Islam. |
Dear LORD God, may the Tunisian Church know Your fatherly protection and provision, may it show the love and compassion of Your Son to all, and may it be guided and inspired by Your Holy Spirit, now and always. Give courage to those of Your children called to testify before the authorities. Grant wisdom and courage to President Zine El Abidine ben Ali, that he would uphold the just rule of law for the benefit of all citizens. Amen. |
